About Andy
In the realm where melody and introspection intertwine, a name that resonates deeply is Andy Hobson, the creative force behind Coraland. Andy is a promising singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer with a penchant for writing infectious tunes and relatable narratives, inspired by internationally acclaimed Artists like Fleetwood Mac, Beach Boys and Peter Gabriel.
Hailing from the rolling hills of Gloucestershire, Andy’s music journey began at age 10 when he discovered his innate talent for drumming. Fuelled by a burning passion for music during his teenage years, he eagerly became part of the local gig circuit, driven by the allure of being a band member. It was within this vibrant musical landscape that he honed his skills and nurtured his craft.
In his early twenties, Andy embarked on a quest for musical mastery, enrolling in a drum school that refined his skills and unlocked hidden potential. The results of his hard work soon manifested when he stumbled upon a band’s demo on MySpace that captivated him. This fortuitous encounter led to auditions, record label interest, and eventually signing with the renowned Parlophone Records. Highlights included being on tour with The Killers when they released their iconic hit ‘Mr Brightside’, playing Wembley Arena supporting Placebo and recording at Peter Gabriel’s Realworld Studios. During this recording session Andy was also invited to help mix a track for Peter with Daniel Lanois.
However, the fickle nature of the music industry took its toll, and the band’s journey took an unexpected turn. Despite the setback pushing Andy into an undeniably low point, his unwavering resilience refused to be subdued. He explored session work, made TV appearances, and even pursued a career in child psychotherapy. Along this path, he rediscovered the solace of meditation, a practice that had provided comfort during his touring days. This profound connection sparked a merging of his love for music and search for a deeper meaning in life, giving birth to soothing ambient compositions that have resonated with millions worldwide.
During the creation of one of his ambient tracks, a moment of revelation struck Andy like a bolt of lightning. Deep within his being, he discovered the dormant songwriter yearning to be heard. As he wrestled with the challenge of completing the track, a daring idea took hold. He decided to embark on an experimental journey, infusing heartfelt lyrics into the composition, giving birth to his very first song. From that point on, the floodgates of inspiration opened, and Andy found himself consumed by an insatiable urge to write. Despite his lack of previous experience as a vocalist, he recognised the need to develop his voice in order to give life his songs. Determined to refine his newfound craft, he sought vocal lessons. After two decades, Andy had finally discovered a fresh, resonant voice within himself.
Andy’s life took on a new dimension when he became a parent. As he embraced parenthood, the lullabies he composed to help them drift off to sleep found their way into his artistic repertoire. Today, as Coraland, Andy embraces a new chapter in his musical journey as a singer-songwriter. Drawing from his experiences, his music offers a unique blend of pop and rock that evoke strong emotions with artful gravitas, through carefully crafted, ever-ascending melodies. Andy is an avid storyteller, drawing inspiration from his life experiences to create earworms with a meditative twist.
‘Every melody carries a message, a vibration that can touch the deepest parts of our being,’ Andy once remarked during an interview. ‘Through music, we can access emotions and states of consciousness that words alone often fail to express. It’s a universal language that transcends borders and unites us all.’
Andy’s powerful conviction, forged through his own life experiences, extends far beyond music. He passionately advocates for a conscious and compassionate society, urging people to question societal norms and embrace authentic self-expression. With an unwavering belief in the potential for positive change, he challenges humanity’s passive nature, encouraging people to break free from the confines of complacency and embrace the multifaceted journey of life. Materialism also strikes a chord with Andy, as he keenly observes how his peers’ fixation on houses, possessions, and work status often veils a deeper sense of purposelessness.
From a wide array of jobs spanning different industries to his experiences in the music world, Andy’s story is a testament to the importance of embracing one’s passions and talents.
